Letter from the President.
Hi Friends!
My name is Shannon Swierat and I hold the honor of calling myself the current President of the Delta Alpha Chapter of Theta Phi Alpha. I joined Theta Phi my freshman year, Spring 2016, and entered the ride of my life! I never expected what saying “yes” on bid day would mean for me! I have grown more in the past two years than I could have ever imagined. Without the support and guidance of my sisters, I would never have thought being President was something I was capable of doing and this doesn’t stop just because I’ve been elected. My sisters are constantly installing the confidence in me a President needs.
However, although we wear our letters with pride, we are not your typical sorority women. We are a diverse group of women from all backgrounds, cultures and experiences. After getting into Theta Phi Alpha, I have realized that, much like myself, most of my sisters didn’t see themselves joining Greek Life at all. With that being said, many of us take part in other clubs and organizations, as well as holding membership in various honor societies and holding jobs on and off campus. We pride ourselves on being much more than the typical “sorority girls” and push each other to be better than we were the day before.
I want to thank you for taking the time to check us out! I hope our sisterhood can be the home away from home you may have been looking for! I can safely say I would not be the woman I am without my sisters and all of the opportunities Theta Phi Alpha has given me.
Ever Loyal Ever Lasting,
Shannon S

about US.
Theta Phi Alpha is a national women's social fraternity, and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference. The mission of Theta Phi Alpha encompasses far more than providing a social network for college women. For more than 90 years, the sisters of Theta Phi Alpha have maintained a history rich in educational excellence, professional achievement, and a deep commitment to social service.
Founded on May 4th, 2013, the Delta Alpha chapter was chartered by 46 incredible women. Their love, passion, and devotion to this organization would pass down for future members to come. Through sisterhood, academia, and philanthropy, the Delta Alpha has accomplished so much in the little time they have been on campus, including winning the Chapter of Excellence Award in 2016 and 2017. Our sisters have been active not only within the chapter, but the SUNY Plattsburgh Community. It's more than just four years, it's for life.

Camp Friendship is a two-week summer camp hosted in northeast Mississippi for children from disadvantaged and low-income homes. For two weeks children participate in camp activities that help develop teamwork skills, foster new relationships and promote a sense of self-worth that grows from their personal accomplishments. Sisters of Theta Phi Alpha assist Camp Friendship with financial donations, supplies and as volunteers at the camp.

Glenmary Home Missioners (aka The Home Missioners of America) was founded in 1939 by Father William Howard Bishop, a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, to serve what he termed "No Priest Land, USA." At that time, he noted that more than one-third of the counties of the United States, mostly in Appalachia and the South, had no resident priest. Father Bishop foresaw that this area—then as populous as Canada, as large as Mexico and covering one-fourth of the United States—could be lost to the Church unless this vast priestless "home mission" area was recognized by and designated a specific ministry of the Church.

The House That Theta Phi Alpha Built is Theta Phi Alpha's newest philanthropic cause, established in 1993. The common goal through The House is to improve the plight of the homeless in any way. The chapter can seek to provide assistance to organizations that help the homeless, shelters, home building or neighborhood revitalization projects. This goal permits all Theta Phi Alphas to help those in need in their own community, while remaining united in our aim and purpose.
The Ted K. Center was founded in the late 1970s when instances of vandalism and crime within Plattsburgh Housing Authority (PHA) family developments occurred at an alarming rate while the number of unsupervised youth also increased. The community center program focuses on education and constructive leisure time activities for youth.
